600+ Goats Are Coming to the Arroyo
Over two months, these goats will graze 100 acres, reducing wildfire risk across the Arroyo Seco.
After the devastating 2025 wildfires in Altadena and the Pacific Palisades, it’s clear that wildfire is an immediate and growing threat.
In partnership with the City of Pasadena, the One Arroyo Foundation is funding a nature-based solution by deploying goats to reduce fire-prone vegetation in the Arroyo. The landscape acts as a natural wind tunnel where fires can move quickly, contributing to its designation as a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.
Grazing in the spring, goats clear dry brush and invasive plants before they become fire fuel. Moving easily through steep and sensitive terrain, they reach areas machinery cannot, helping restore a healthier, more resilient landscape, support native plant regrowth, and return nutrients to the soil.
Wildfire prevention starts with reducing what fuels it, and the Arroyo Goats are turning that work into action.
